Why women get so angry when other women keep their name after marriage?

I recently asked for advice on how to handle being called out-of-my-name on invitations and almost all of the angry responses were women. It doesn't affect them or have anything to do with their lives so why does it offend women so much that other women don't follow mindless tradition? If you don't have a real rational explanation instead of an insult please don't respond.
