My Son has got a Honda Civic Type R.?

Oil and water are ok but he says there is a strong smell of heat from about where the front seats are situated. There doesn't sound like there's a hole in the exhaust nor is there any obvious signs of anything burning. He has asked me for help but i can't give it to him as i have no idea what it can be, does anyone out there on YA have any ideas?
