How is athiesm any different then thiesm?

They missed your point all together. They don't understand that theirs is a belief system, one which takes more faith than looking at the harmony and complexities of nature and concluding that it had an intelligent designer. For them to explain the mind-boggling complexities which work together, in in a single cell, they must believe in the source of lifeless matter forming it by chance. And strangely enough, if evolution were true, it still would not prove that there was not a designer who put the process in place to form the complexities. The world and what it confesses shows the need for a very, very, very intelligent designer....and a soup of chemicals doesn't cut it.
